You were always on my mind.
i LOVE almost all leather club chairs.
you are not the exception.
i got an email the other day from a “loyal” reader (kind of surprised to even have A reader) advising me to post more…i’ve been busy pushing weight, & if that’s kept you waiting for more posts here, then i apologize.
“say goodbye to these, cause it’s the last time.”—Kitty, Arrested Development.
i went to the Rose Bowl Flea Market yesterday w/ my mom.
it’s been year since i had last been…& it may have been the most successful visit ever paid by a single man to the Bowl.
i bought a few amazing items for myself (which i’ll post here soon after cleaning), a couple things for Graham’s new place in LA, & met a designer from HGTV.
hell, it was such great trip that i even got this trophy (it wasn’t awarded, it was bought).
slutever…it was still damn near perfect.
i’m stealing the idea of a rusty chain as a decorative piece from an interior designer here in LA (who will remain anonymous at this time).
there’s so much amazing stuff going on in her home, but her usage of old chains on the coffee table in the living room stuck w/ me more than anything.
on JAN 1, i visited the Illinois Institute of Technology, in Chicago.
in case you were unaware, it was primarily designed by Mies van der Rohe.
here’s some of what i saw:

the amount that she decorates for Christmas each year > the amount that i’ve decorated for Christmas through now + the amount i ever will decorate for Christmas.
it’s hard to argue w/ math.

merry Christmas.
i saw this card last Friday at Kelly Green Design (over on Sunset Boulevard).
i’m a sucker for a good line.
yeah, i know it’s DEC 21.
i typically enjoy the holiday season very much, what w/ 30 Days of Facial Hair, Christmas in Nebraska (& maybe snow), then m&t & NYE in Chicago.
w/ the acting & interior design opportunities presented me lately, you’d think i’d be a jollier sort of fellow…i mean, my name IS “nicholas,” for fuck’s sake…
but fuck my face…not this year.
this year, i’m hating on the holidays, because i want that which i (thought i) had the last 2 years.
so i apologize for unbearable shit i feel i’ll be for much of this holiday season…sorry Mom, sorry Dad, sorry family/friends.
and in honor of my cold, black heart, i present the Industrial Decay Network…a photo blog sharing work from around the world of, well, decaying industrial sites.
enjoy the degradation, corrosion, & putridness of these images…& may none of it ever seep over into your life.
are those real…?
no, not those…i mean the Christmas trees, you perv.
on NPR, you can hear the logic from some pro-real tree environmentalists here.
for a unique alternative, check out the Eco-Xmas Tree designed by Joel Fitzpatrick.
the tree combines vintage, reclaimed glass insulators w/ LED bulbs for lighting .
i’m pretty sure this is the tree you’ll find at Tron’s house this holiday season.
full disclosure: i especially like this tree for its glass insulators; according to my Pop, my late Grandma used to collect these along the road in western Nebraska as the phone lines were upgraded, which is how i have one from her collection on my dresser.
i’m serious.
i’m having a dream(s?) about visiting the Illinois Institute of Technology in Chicago.
in the dream, i arrive on a snowy, quiet evening & walk around the campus, photographing various Mies van der Rohe designed buildings.
the strange thing is, while i possess a slight familiarity of van der Rohe’s design style, i’ve fully constructed an IIT campus in my subconscious that makes me feel as if i have been there.
but i haven’t.
so i decided i am going see IIT when i’m in Chicago for the end of DEC.
and it’ll be creepy if i experience deja vu…again…because i get that feeling a lot.
